Supernova Remnants in the Magellanic Clouds. Vii. Infrared Emission from Snrs
نویسنده
چکیده
We have used the instruments on the Spitzer Space Telescope to study the Large Magellanic Cloud supernova remnants (SNRs) N11L, N44, N49, N206, N63A, and N157B. The two large SNRs N44 and N206 were not detected in any IRAC or MIPS wavebands; the remainder were detected at one or more wavelengths. In particular, the SNRs N49 and N63A each had features that were evident in all available IRAC and MIPS bands. Each of these two also displayed faint limb emission in the MIPS 24 μm band only. IRS spectra obtained for the N49 SNR showed a number of prominent lines, with little continuum contribution. We therefore suggest that N49, and possibly N63A, are dominated by line emission, with thermal emission from hot dust being at most a secondary component. Supernova Remnants in the Magellanic Clouds III: An X-ray Atlas of LMC Supernova Remnants
We have used archival ROSAT data to present X-ray images of thirty-one supernova remnants (SNRs) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). We have classified these remnants according to their X-ray morphologies, into the categories of Shell-Type, Diffuse Face, Centrally Brightened, Point-Source Dominated, and Irregular. We suggest possible causes of the X-ray emission for each category, and for indi...

We report results from an ASCA X-ray study of DEM L316, an emission nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) consisting of two closely-spaced supernova remnants (SNRs). The SIS image shows separate X-ray sources located at the positions of the two radioand optically-emitting SNR shells, 0547−69.7A and 0547−69.7B (hereafter, shell A and B). The individual X-ray spectrum of each shell is well d...

A number of authors presented beautiful narrow-band images of both the LMC and the SMC, which showed an intricate network of hot bubbles produced by the stellar winds of giant associations, and shells formed by exploding supernovae. From the close association between supernova remnants (SNRs) and emission nebulosity Petre (NASA/GSFC) concluded that the majority (35 out of 48) of the SNRs observ...

The DEM L 316 system contains two shells, both with the characteristic signatures of supernova remnants (SNRs). We analyze Chandra and XMM-Newton data for DEM L 316, investigating its spatial and spectral X-ray features. Our Chandra observations resolve the structure of the northeastern SNR (Shell A) as a bright inner ring and a set of " arcs " surrounded by fainter diffuse emission. The spectr...

Technological advances in radio telescopes and X-ray instruments over the last 20 years have greatly increased the number of known supernova remnants (SNRs) and led to a better determination of their properties. In particular, more SNRs now have reasonably determined distances. However, many of these distances were determined kinematically using old rotation curves (based on R⊙ = 10 kpc and V⊙ ...
